Hi:

Does anyone know if there's going to be sampling booths or food booths serving authentic Chinese delicacies at this event?

I know Chinese New Year is next week.

  1. I've been last year (or was it the year before?), and they had an entire section devoted to food stands. Cheap and fun

I wouldn't bother going. Food is crap, nothing special. I went last year -- it was 15% about Chinese New Year and 85% about corporate or private business sponsorship and advertisement. This event could have great potential but unfortunately I will never go again because there is not enough valid content that showcases the Chinese culture and the actual holiday itself. Last year there was some cheesy MC guy on stage that kept talking about envisioning yourself getting rich and making money and holding a ball of money in your hand. It was quite horrible. The one in Vancouver is better than the one in Toronto.

Thanks for the warning. I was thinking of going this year, but I have changed my mind due to your review.

Can you recommend another place that has Chinese new year food treats and atmosphere (a lion dance would be good too).

        Thanks for your help.

in general i would try the chinese malls/areas... here is a weblink (scroll DOWN on the page).. at the bottom there seems to be a promising one, "Town of Markham's Chinese New Year Celebrations":

otherwise i'm not sure where else there might be celebrations (i found this just online).
