  1. I have been told that Soma Chocolate in the Distillery District serves amazing hot chocolate. I haven't tried it myself, but I plan on making trip down there soon to try it out.

I have to second the nomination of Soma chocolate. I was in the District over the weekend and quite cold from all the stomping about and the dodging of the snow plows. Me and the Girl sought out refuge in the Denaturing building and found Soma and sighed in relief and ordered two of their finest Mayan Hot Chocolate with steamed milk and sat and watched the master Chocolatier making chocolate. Man, that was tasty. We also had two little chocolate/caramel confections that were like little bits of heaven. Out of curiosity (and fascination with the beautiful packaging), we bought a chocolate and green tea bar which was surprisingly full of green tea and quite delicious in small quantities.

While at Soma in the Distillery District, the thing to try is a Mayan-style hot chocolate shot. It comes undiluted in a little plastic cup, and it's heavenly! Thick, warm and dark with the right amount of acidity and a hint of spice, it oozes down your throat like velvet and makes your head spin. One shot will get you addicted. A must for any chococholic!

I agree whole heartily. i performed with Rosedale Heights, School of the Arts over the weekend and a few friends and i went to Soma to try some hot chocolate, and Oh, that was like heaven. wow, spicy, sweet and velvety and delicious. get the shot. undescribable.......yum

    2. Ed's Real Scoop in the Beaches does quite an excellent hot chocolate (with your choide of dark or milk chocolate) and, yes, they do make their own marshmellow cream!!

personally i liked Starbucks hot chocolate. but not all Starbucks make it equal. some don't know what the heck they're doing and make it too watery. some make it with not enough chocolate sauce.

but when they make it properly, and if you like your hot chocolate to taste more like dark chocolate than sweet sugary brown stuff, then this is it.

whip cream -- i would recommend having it without the whip cream at Starbucks... but it's up to you, if you want the extra 100 calories.

        1. Ed's Real Scoop in the Beaches makes a hot chocolate that fits your description. They use melted belgian chocolate, either dark or milk, and top it with marshmallow cream.
