mussels @ cafe brussel and bier market

Had snob mussels at both recently. Bier Market on Esplanade wins although both were good. However, as expected, Cafe Brussels is the better dining experience. One should only compare the food as Cafe Brussels is a full-time restaurant whereas Bier Markt is bar with a decent dining area.
Cafe Brussel: great decor; great wait staff; good wine selection although limited at lower price range; highly recommended.
Bier Markt: been many times; balanced bar and dining area; great beer selection (fair priced); food prices are tad high (eg $9-11 for desserts!); service has historically been spotty although it was good on Jan 2 visit.

The Bier Market menu is a more or less complete ripoff of the Belgo Restuarant chain in London. The Belgo cookbook, though (if it's still in print) is a good buy for fans of mussels.

Did I read something about another mussel place close to cafe brussel around the Broadview Danforth neighborhood that should be tried?

        Hi,

Maybe you are thinking of the Riverside Cafe? It is on Queen Street just east of Broadview (730 Queen St.) I have not been but would love to try it. I've heard only good reviews so far. Apparently they have a menu of mussels served about thirty different ways and a martini menu to match... (I know... but lets not start into the martini debate again here!)

I would love to hear a review of this place from a chowhound... or even go with a few chowhounds...

        Be well...

One could also try the Banknote at Bathurst and King. Tuesdays they have a special with 2 lb. of mussels for $5.99 (or something like that). Good deal.

Has anyone been to Riverside lately?
We just moved into the area and drive by it all the time...I was thinking of a birthday dinner there.

Riverside is totally a restaurant you should check out! I live in the neighbourhood and have gone many times. They have a new chef (and menu) and the food is to die for! Try the sunchoke tart!! I have also noticed the website they've put up, real snazzy. Definately worth checking out, they have great service. Go down a have a drink at the bar. Best martinis in town, try the Cat's Ass!
