Restaurants near ACC and Steeles/Keele

I'm on a search for the Holy Grail of restaurants. Here's what I'm looking for: a) Something within walking distance of the Air Canada Centre; and b) something in the vicinity of York University (Steeles and Keele or anywhere close to there). These restaurants must be interesting in some way, NOT expensive, NOT fake-fancy, can be any cuisine, and should be vegetarian-friendly (at least a couple of reasonable vegetarian choices). I find myself in both of those areas from time to time and it's really tough to find a good place to eat. The ACC area seems riddled with touristy pre-theatre type restaurants that lack soul, and the Steeles area is just a black hole. Help.

  1. Re: Steeles and Keele...there is a decent Thai place on the north side of Steeles, a block east of Keele...I was there a while back though.

    1. It's a bit of a walk but I like going to C'est What which is a pub at Church and Front. They offer many good choices for vegetarians and the service is good. Casual but decent. Nothing dodgy at all and I believe that they are in their 16th year of business.

Other than that, I don't know what else to really suggest. I usually eat at home or in my neighbourhood before the games at the ACC. There really isn't much that appeals.

      1. there's a nice italian all-you-can-eat buffet on steels and bathurst called "vinny vichy's" (or something like that). about $20 a person. good food...huge selection. fun place to go.
