I have been working "out here" for about 8 months now. Yes, please have pity.

I have two recommendations for those looking for good eats around Scarborough:

1) Vietnam Noodle Star @ 4188 Finch Ave. E Unit 2

Authentic and delicious Vietnamese food. Can be packed over lunch. Haven't been for dinner. Excellent Pho and curry chicken.

2) A Taste of Manchester

Recently opened in the plaza at Warden / Eglinton. Carribean food. This is for a quick meal not a sitdown delight although there are a few tables. I've had the jerk chicken with peas and rice which was quite good and today I had a chicken roti which wasn't bad though it definitely needed the hot sauce that I added.

Actually Scarborough has lots of good chowhoundish places. Here's one: Ghareeb Nawaz, west side of Markham Rd. just north of Eglinton. Advertises itself as "Best Biryani in Town" and as full halal.
It's mostly takeout with a few tables. There are 3 dishes on the menu: chicken biryani, some sort of chicken roti, and I forget the third one, plus lamb on weekends. The decor is painted phrases from the Koran (I assume)and a wooden divisor that keeps you from seeing the food. The dishes are all the same price: $2.99 for a huge container that can feed two. The biryani and the roti are indeed delicious, but if you can't handle spice you should say so.

If you like Falafal (probably not spelled right)
I like Far Hut in the Nasr Plaza on Lawrence just west of Warden on the north side.
I've also been to Mediteranian Sun in a little plaza on Danforth rd just east of Danforth Ave on the north side (just across from Ellas banquet hall)
Enjoy

Hope you're enjoying Scarborough.

Yes, there's quite a bit of good Chowhound finds in the neighbourhood. Some of my favourite places are:

- Chicken & Mushroom Noodle House
- Bluffers Restaurant
- Jim Jai Kee (best wonton ever!)
- Super Taste
- Congee King
- Remely's
- T Bones
- Dragon Dynasty
- Federic's
- New Peking
- a Japanese restaurant in the Market Village complex

Hope this helps. I'll write again once I think of more.

Wow,

that's pretty much a complete list of my regular haunts. Except for Barrio Fiesta (not as fresh as Remely's)

The pizza place I've never heard of.......might as well try it!!!

In return, you should try Dante's at Yonge/Bathurst-Steeles

You mean Dante's in Thornhill at:

267 Bay Thorn Drive
Thornhill, ON
L3T 3V8

Their pizzas are great though expensive. The "mini" size can feed 2 people adequately.

That Chinese place at Dragon Centre is amazing and cheap, been going there since 1985 and the prices are virtually unchanged!

Try all three counters and see which one fits you best. I generally buy Singapore noddles at the first counter and chicken and shrip fried rice at the middle counter. Each item is only $4.25 per box. Each box feeds about 1.5 hungry people.

Warning if you plan to save some and re-heat the food, please splash some water on top of the rice first, as the rice is best eaten fresh and can become hard over night in the fridge.

One of my favourite japanese restaurants is Mikasa (Pharmacy/McNichol). Favourite dishes included:
- hibachi rice (rib eye or chicken)- great for cold wintry days when you need something hot and satisfying
- sushi - small selection, but fresh

I've never tried Mikasa but it was my sister's favourite Japanese restaurant. Apparently they had changed ownership and she said the food isn't as good.

Does anyone know if the original/previous owners retired? My sister is hoping they've opened up somewhere else.

Cheers!
