Korean Restaurant Review: (Kol Pank Sak?)

First, sorry I cant remember the exact name of this restaurant. Its next door to the Tasty restaurant in the Bloor Street Korean Business District. Thats a sexy address.
There are two restaurants up a flight of stairs above a Korean grocery, when looking at the building from the sidewalk, its the one on the right.
This is very similar to student restaurants in Korea, missing only the roll of toilet paper as napkins for a full authentic experience. The clientele is mainly Korean students, relaxing with bottles of seoju(sp?) or a couple of beers along with some tasty food.
We were served some interesting side dishes, delicious kimchi, seaweed salad and hot sauce etc. Very nice and the waitress was very enthused when we asked for more kimchi(Im not Korean).
What we had:
Dolsat Bibim Bop: I couldnt believe when the Bibim Bop showed up in the hot stone bowl for $5.99.
Tasty ribs(is this kalbi?) for $6.99
Delicious mandu(fried dumplings) and a black bean noodle dish too.
Beers are $2.99 and we had several. The bill was something like $55 for 8 beers and 4 adults groaning from all the food wed had.
The food was good and excellent value. However, this restaurant is not really where youd go to sample the cuisine for the first time. Its a good place to go with friends that like Korean. Dont let me put you off though, they have a full English menu and the staff were very friendly.
For anyone that wants to recreate their student days in Korea, they do have a party room which is a separate low table that you sit around on the floor. Most tables are in enclosed booths.
Korean food here in Toronto is as good as in Korea, with the exception of the fresh panchan (namul) in the wintertime. Portions are of an excellent quality, voluminous in amount(s) and absolutely delicious. Soup bases are made from stock for the most part - even a Cham Pong (spicy soup - tons of chili - made with fresh seafood with udon and fresh vegetables) is a classic example. Hae mul jongol (Korean version of bouillabaise (excuse spelling) is unbelievably wonderful. I would urge everyone to take a trip to Bloor and Christie, or for people who live in the North part of the city, around Finch and Yonge. Excellent service, low-key and quiet atmosphere (no shrieky types PLEASE - don't spoil it for the rest of us who like to eat in a quiet ambiance).
