Jerusalem - Finch/Leslie

Went to this branch of the Jerusalem for the first time in ages last night. Tried the buffet, which wasn't bad - interesting variety of salads and desserts, with good moussaka and kebabs on the hot table, all for $13.99

The service, on the other hand, was atrocious. I should have sensed something when I was put in a side section by myself, while there still appeared to be plenty of seats in the main dining area. Just about walked out before the waitress showed up. Never received the water I asked for, nor did I get a basket of pitas like the other diners. She also seemed to be making some sort of comments I couldn't make out under her breath. For a time, there was another group in my section, which recieved all the attention (any attempts to flag down failed). It was so dead in that part of the restaurant, I suspect I could have slipped out without paying (it also took awhile to get the bill).

So, the food's good, but if you get stuck over by the side, flee.

That's too bad, I've always received good service there; but then I've never gone by myself.
The falafel, by the way, is the best I've had in Toronto, and I've tried quite a few.

Yes, the falafel was excellent, not mushy at all. I would have been content just eating a mound of it with some baba ganoush :)

One funny thing I forgot to mention. I overheard a family leaving, with a teenage son saying loudly to his father "Dad, be honest now - the service sucked!"

Just to let you know, there is NO relation between Jerusalem on Leslie/Finch and the one on Engligton...And Really, If you want GREAT middle-eastern food, well...Pita Paradise is fantastic(Finch, east of Dufferin) and Me-Va-Me, Bathurst and Steeles. You wont be disappointed!! Enjoy!!

For something good try almost anyplace in Detroit.
The best I know in Toronto is Aladdin's Palace on Victoria Pk and Mcnicoll.

Detroit is Lebanese, Aladdin's Palace is Christian Arab from Israel, Jerusalem is Palestinian. It makes a big differenc ein the cooking.

The Jerusalem Buffet always holds great promise but never satisfies because the cooking is not very good. Dressings on the cold dishes are not good and damage the otherwise good and intersting ingredients.
I tell myself every time that this is the last time, and then go back six to nine months later.
Holidays are celebrated by raising prices. Go for lunch. More or less the same buffet as at supper except no shawarma.
As for bad service, this is not a valid complaint. You don't go to a place like this for the service.

It's a valid complaint if the things service is necessary for at such places (ie drinks) never come to the table, as the earlier poster indicated.

There have been buffet restaurants I have been to where the service has been very friendly and very good I like the Famous down in Little India for this reason.
