Banjara Indian Cuisine

Banjara is the sister restaurant to Mr. Maharaja that recently opened up on Yonge right by the "old" Uptown theatre. (Digression: I miss it already!)
As I was walking by today, I noticed they have a take-out menu. Here's my revue.
First, a warning: The service is very slow. Mr Maharaja was never speedy but now they have 2 restaurants sharing the same kitchen. The waitress informed me that for future visits it would be easier to phone my order in advance and just pick it up.
It doesn't seem to have affected the quality of the food, however.
From the takeout menu, I ordered the chicken biryani combo.
The chicken biryani was excellent. The chicken chunks were large and moist. The rice was flavourful but not spicy. It was garnished with pecans.
A generous side of raita (yoghurt sauce)accompanied it.
A small portion of garden salad as well as fresh fruit came with the combo. The garden salad included lettuce, lots of purple cabbage, tomato and cucumber. Surprisingly there was no onion in it. There appeared to be a oil/vinegar dressing but I couldn't taste it. But some of the raita made a great dressing.
The take out menu is limited to 6 dishes, but I'll definitely return to try their lunch buffet and may even work my way through their a la carte menu.
