I know, I know, hundreds of threads already on this, BUT I just came back from Hollywood Gelato and had to post a few observations:
-Does NOT beat La Paloma on ANY flavour in my opinion
-Can get a 3-scoop (albeit smallish) medium cup for $3.50
-I'm a coffee/chocolate freek, but was NOT blown away by either the Valhrona chocolate, Tiramisu, or Cappuccino flavours that were tasted
-Chocolate was the best of those 3 flavours, very creamy, smooth, and rich...the Tiramisu had a weirdish "smoked" taste to it with what seemed like little shavings of chocolate throughout and was almost grit-like...would have prefered a creamier texture... Cappuccino wasn't bad, but the coffee flavour could have been alot stronger...
-Father-in-law decided to get all fruit flavours though and WAS blown away...especially by the lemon...very clean, crisp and refreshing, not too sweet. It was creamy and icy all at the same time. Pineapple, raspberry, and mango also fantastic
-Service was OK...friendly enough, but all teenagers, and you didn't get that instant rapport with anyone like you would have at La Paloma (or at least like I feel I do when I go there)
-Inside was air-conditioned and clean, with nice smallish patio outside to people watch
All in all it was worth the trip to take a taste rather than have to drive all the way to La Paloma (for me, at least), but I believe their strong suit for gelato seems to lie in their fruit flavours.
Any other reviews of Hollywood?
