Taste of South Asia Food Festival.
This weekend. Taste of South Asia Food Festival. Food festival in Gerrard India Bazaar. Saturday 12 p.m. - 10 p.m. Paan, dosas, pani poori and more. Some of the best food you'll ever find in the city!
Uhhh ... My wife pointed out the article in yesterday's Toronto Star. Maybe it's because I live 10 minutes away from Little India, but I had to ask myself the question: why would I want to go in a crowd on Saturday, when the food is so available any day of the week?
Maybe because the food writer didn't give greater coverage of the other happenings there -- he/she focused so much on the food -- I'm not sure if there's other reasons to go. It's not like you need to make an reservation to go for paan. (It's not like Chinese restaurants requesting 24 hours for Peking Duck!)
This isn't to say that the event won't be fun, but I wonder what else is scheduled. At the Taste of the Danforth, they serve tasting-sized portions for reduced prices, but Indian food is pretty economical to start with. At the Taste of the Danforth, there's always music and a games for the kids, so it's a family event.
I'm going out of town this weekend, so I'll be interested whether some chowhound thinks it's worth a Saturday afternoon or evening, or whether it's better just to come on a non-festival day.
Maybe they'll have someone making naan on the street. I wonder if they'll be selling cut-rate kulfi, too.
Did anyone go to the Taste of South Asia Food Festival?
I was unable to make it due to the rain.
