Tuna

Could anyone recommend what they would consider to be the best fishmonger in Toronto to buy sashimi-grade tuna? I usually buy it at one of the fishmongers in St. Lawrence Market, but I'm wondering if I'm out of the loop on this. Is there a place offering higher quality tuna?

Thanks in advance!

Hmm... do you have a sushi restaurant that you're a regular at? perhaps a bit of chatting with the waitstaff or chef would help? i'm sure like any chefs they don't like giving away their secrets, but it might be worth a shot.

Pisces Fish (Yonge, just south of Summerhill) has beautiful fish, including sushi grade tuna. Of course, it's not at all cheap, but it is excellent.

Try Taro's at 3160 Steeles Ave. E. (at Victoria Park), Unit 6, 905-944-1377. (Closed Monday). Very good quality and cheaper than Pisces.

You could try Bill's Lobsters on Gerrard, east of Broadview. I get sushi-grade salmon there (a bargain) and occasionally get sushi-grade tuna. (They bring it out of the back, and shoo people away from it).
