Okay, we're going east along the Danforth. There's the Greektown strip till about Jones. Then a barren wasteland (with the exception of El Sol) for the longest stretch. But then there's Main Street and I've heard that there are a few notable destinations in that part of town. Can anyone verify this?
I feel fairly comfortable recommending Duckworth's Fish and Chips at Main and Danforth.
2638 Danforth Ave. 699-5865
I am not usually a big fan of fish and chips, I usually walk out of a fish and chip place wanting to wash my hair and drink grapefruit juice, but this place seems different.
The fish is dense, meaty, crunchy and almost greaseless. Not completly greasless, that would defeat the whole point wouldn't it?
The place is not much to look at but it still might be a good idea to eat it there so everything stays crunchy and hot. The fries don't travel well.
The service is efficient in an almost military way but with smiles.
I have also heard of a good Indian cheap place a few doors down but haven't tried it. Can anyone tell me about that place?
The Indian place you're asking about is Poonam Delite - it is, in my opinion, one of the better Indian buffets in town. Almost all their customers are regulars (or become regulars) and they treat us like family. Prices are great (7.99) which I hope they don't increase and the food is fresh and tasty! However, can we keep this our secret - I am a regular and love the cosy atmosphere...
Try Jean's Thai Kitchen (formerly Jean's Fine Foods Catering) at 2326 Danforth (halfway between Woodbine and Main)for great Thai/Malaysian food. The eggplant dishes are really tasty, if you like eggplant. The mee goreng is lovely. Also try the beef rendang. Their Thai curries are a bit on the watery side.
Thanks for the scoops. Been to Duckworths and the other night almost went for Poonan Delight but it was late so we went down to Indiatown.
I've heard good things about a place called Jean's and passing by, it was packed so there is another possibility.
Not much else, is there?
