- John Aimers
Do others share my very ambivalent feelings about the food at this admittedly extremely-attractive space ?
I find myself there a fair bit since Amex Rewards points no longer convertible to any airline programme of interest to me - so for 11,000 points dinner for two is "free."
Some random observations:
a) cheese toast a shadow of what it was at all the Hy's across Canada some years ago - it tastes bland and processed
b) caesar salad usually too cold and ungarlicy - last Fri night an exception, the waiter admitted he'd ramped up the garlic
c) an expensive wine list with the waiters' knowledge thereof variable at best
d) desserts worthy of a diner, not a restaurant
e) the large filet almost always very tender and precisely cooked; skimpy portions of lyonnaise potatoes could be hotter, crisper and bigger
Well that's my two cents worth !
Yeah you're right John. I used to love Hy's when it was at the old Toronto location and since the move it's been mediocre at best. I also loved the old boys club ambience it used to have, now it's just another steak house. Possible the best steak in Toronto is now at the House of Chan up on Eglinton. If you haven't been there it's worth a try
