Store bought crust for Steak & Stilton pie?

  • 8

Hi All,

Does anyone have a preferred store-bought pie crust? No matter how hard I try, I always screw it up so I'm taking the easy way out this time.

Thanks!

  1. Doesn't this Pie just get a Puff Pastry Top?
If so there are a couple of threads about this

The mention of Stilton suggests that the OP is making a British style steak pie. More often than not, that would use a shortcrust, not puff, pastry. And, most traditionally, has pastry top, bottom and sides, enclosing the filling, rather than just a topping.

Many English recipes call for Blitz(rough Puff) or Puff Pastry as well as Short Pastry.

    2. My favorite store bought pie crust is Mrs. Smith's in the freezer section. I haven't bought one in a really long time, but my mother always bought them and they do in a pinch.

If you go with puff pastry, get one with butter.

      1. Try using puff pastry or empanada dough.

True, La SalteƱa makes two for the Oven(rather than for Frying) A Regular one and a Flaky one.

        2. For puff pastry Dufour is very good, and uses real food ingredients and butter. In the freezer section
