Shortie Reviews to Chew On. We had, as always, a great time cruising the city and bayous.
Pascale's Manale for Oysters and drinks. 3 PM Happy hour with the greatest bartender (Bruce) and shucker (Thomas) in town! Had the place to ourselves and a real blast. They regaled us with jokes, stories, booze and bivalves.
Peche was amazing on all fronts - especially cobia ceviche with a bean puree, a whole Lane Snapper, Crab pasta.
Liuzza'a for gumbo's, a Frencheletta sandwich was insanely delish, fried pickle chips, cajun boudin. Been to Liuzza's many times over the years but never had the Frenchuletta - what a treat. That house made pork/ham is killer.
Hot Tails in New Roads (an hr from Baton Rouge). WOW this place should be more well known - I got no hits when I inquired here a few weeks ago. Excellent bar and restaurant. I am in love with Lazy Magnolia's Southern Pecan Ale (sadly, unavailable in this LA). We got so much good stuff at Hot Tails. Notably, wonderful frog's legs, fried rabbit, gumbos, boudin balls, Shrimp and Crawfish salad w/Sensation Dressing.
Jay's BBQ in Bataon Rouge, great BBQ sauce. Vineger-y goodness. Fine meats.
Tommy's in NOLA (Turtle soup, char grilled oysters, fish smothered in crab, more great frog's legs).
The Morgan City Shrimp and Petroleum Festival - Boiled shrimp, a big fried pork chop with fries and hush puppies and seafood jamabalaya.
Mahoney's on Magazine for fried green tomatoes with amazing Remoulade, po'boys (Roast Beef, Fried Chicken Livers/Slaw) and a Mufeletta for the plane. Oddly, no cheese on the Muff. But all good -- the Muff was better when I added Provolone at home and toasted the sucker.
Wow, and yum! Your trip report sounds sinfully and mouth-wateringly delicous! Have only been to 3 of the places you went to(Pascal's Manale, Liuzza's on Bienville, and Mahony's), but all sound wonderful. I still remember Pascal's as one of our favorite dinners in NOLA. Thanks for sharing, Bob.
