Looking forward to our Boston visit

Well, after much research, we are set for our visit to Boston. We arrive tomorrow morning, departing Sunday evening.

While we've read much buzz about Island Creek Oyster Bar and Row 34, we were not successful getting a reservation, so we will take our chances if we decide to go.

We are leaving lunches to whatever comes along. Looking forward to the food trucks!

We have to decide on dinner reservations as we are double booked Thursday and Friday evenings. We will do walk bys first thing when we arrive tomorrow and then cancel one of the reservations.

Coppa or Atlantic Fish Co.

Coppa or Eastern Standard

Merril & Co.

Really looking forward to our visit. Will report back on our eating when we return home.

  1. there is no reason to go to atlantic fish. coppa is a no-brainer. (chef just won a james beard award too.)

esk has an excellent cocktail program and a very thoughtful, well-priced wine list. while i always enjoy the food, it's nothing ground-breaking. i would just plan my day so i got to island creek when they open at 4:00 and then have dinner at the bar when the kitchen opens at 5:00.

some of the really exciting new places are actually in cambridge and somerville right now. any chance you'd cross the river?

Another update..... We walked in to Row34 last night around 6:30 and got a patio table right away. There were quite a few tables available. Had a fantastic meal.

Had lunch at The Daily Catch in the north end.

    2. Agree for sure.

Take Atlantic fish off the list (how did it get there??)

Coppa for sure. And esk the next night unless you want to do the early thing at ICOB or 34.

Why take Atlantic Fish Co. off the list? From what I've read, while not the trendiest, the food is good.

We were going to venture to Cambridge to Alden & Harlow, but decided to stick close to "home".

The food at Atlantic Fish is completely unremarkable.

I disagree. I have always enjoyed everything I've gotten there from the seafood fra diavolo to the fried clams or salmon with gnocchi. I also always get a side of corn pudding which is delicious.

I didn't say it was terrible, just unremarkable (and overpriced). There are so many better choices for someone on a 3 day visit. If choosing among Coppa, ESK and Atlantic Fish (as the OP is), I'd choose Coppa or ESK 8 days a week.

It's not a "wow" place, but I recently had a very good reasonably priced lobster roll there. Lots of claw meat, very little mayo and on a properly toasted NE bun.

        2. Atlantic Fish's food is fine.

It's just not remotely in the same league as your other choices. Not a destination spot. More like a "good fish in Back Bay" place.

Ok, we've made our decision and decided on Atlantic Fish for tonight, Coppa tomorrow and Merril & Co. Saturday.

We really wanted seafood for our fist night in town. I know Atlantic is not new and trendy, but all the reviews I've read are very positive.

Will report back and let you know how we get on.

May try Eastern Standard for lunch/brunch.

Have a wonderful time! And, fortunately, the weather is quite lovely so strolling around should be fun.

Have fun! Consider strolling the Commonwealth Ave Mall to Kenmore. Lots of great statuary and architecture and trees to take in, rather then congested Newbury and Boylston

Just to let you know, we had a great meal last night at Atlantic Fish. I had the scallops and my other half had the seafood far diva also. The oysters Rockefeller to start we're amazing.

Also, had my first ever lobster roll at Summer Shack. Delicious.

Seafood far is the worst! Glad you enjoyed your meal!
