Chinese Restaurants in SF Proper that have no or low corkage?

Preferably in Chinatown?

Don't have to be the best food-wise, but preferably something decent?

Yuet Lee?

  1. Not Jai Yun any more, they now charge $15.

    1. The Garden did not charge any corkage for our Chinese NY's banquet in February. Food was great. We opened 12 bottles for a party of 10.

Corkage is negotiable at R & G Lounge.

At some of the smaller places, they don't object and do not charge if you open the bottle yourself, keep it out of sight in a brown bag under the table, and drink the wine from a tea cup. :)

Would you pick The Garden over R&G for a banquet for 50?

Anyplace else in Chinatown/FiDi even better?

I'm not sure you could fit 50 people into the upstairs dining room at The Garden, but you could check. We had a private room (with big screen TV to watch the opening of the Olympics!) downstairs. No elevator, as far as I could tell, if that's an issue.

You should look into Great Eastern. It has a banquet area downstairs. Again, no elevator. And do a sniff test. One time that I used the restroom downstairs, the banquet room smelled dank.

Lai Hong Lounge could accommodate a group that size, and I bet it's not that busy at dinner time.

      2. i.i.r.c. Shanghai Bund is ten bucks. we've found a number of French reds compatible with the food there.
