How Did I Miss A New Shopping Center With a Bunch of Chinese restaurants?

This is the on the SW corner of Walnut Grove and Valley Blvd., just east of the center with Tip Top Sandwiches in it. I guess my missing it until now is due to old age and failing eyesight. Also because it's obscured by the McDonald's on the corner and the small amount of frontage on Valley Blvd., mostly taken up by a range hood store. And I only came here because this is where Chengdu Taste 2 opened up, and the next (whoopee) Sam Woo is getting ready. But there's also The Theme Cafe, a boba and popcorn chicken place, Fruit Cup, a boba and popcorn chicken place, and One Plus One Melting Pot. I feel sorry for Fruit Cup, because it's on the back side of the building where Chengdu Taste is. And if it's hard enough to spot the shopping center itself, very few people are going to make their way to the backside, particularly since there's a more visible competitor 50 yards away.

  1. Don't be so hard on yourself. The sight lines are poor. It's very hard to see those when you're driving by, especially if you're the driver.

    1. I concur, don't be so hard on yourself. I walked by as it was under construction, otherwise I wouldn't have known to look for it. I say this is a contender, along with that little plaza where Bamboo Creek is, at being the most difficult to spot from a SGV surface street.

      1. While fruit cup has a horrible spot, they aren't really competing with theme cafe, as they are aiming at completely different markets. Theme cafe is a LOL (League of Legends) themed pc cafe/hangout spot for all the chinese LOL players, while Fruit Cup is more of a jack of all trades tea house most likely to attract ABCs and females.

When I spoke to an employee of theme cafe a few weeks ago, they said the computers will be free to use as long as you buy a drink or snack, and that they will broadcast all of the LOL tournaments. They were pretty quiet when I was eating at chengdu taste #2 last week though.

The plaza already had a non stop drive through line for mcdonalds, now 1/3 of the parking lot is constantly full from chengdu taste. Once sam woo opens, it'll be difficult to find parking there.

Chinese LOL restaurant? Does that qualify as a unique regional cuisine?

        2. there's a mcdonald's on valley?

Yup, with a big enclosed play area too.

i was still living in the midwest when they came out with chicken mcnuggets. whenever i ordered them, i never asked for the sweet and sour sauce.

i don't go much past san gabriel on valley, if i go any farther east, i usually take the 10.

                  1. re: barryc

Really no reason to, assuming you live west of San Gabriel Blvd.

              3. How Did I Miss A New Shopping Center With a Bunch of Chinese restaurants?

Maybe because in reality the entire west and east SGV is a "shopping center with a bunch of Chinese restaurants"?

So (to take an analogy) unless you get a complete haircut, it's almost impossible to notice the negligible incremental growth of each strand of hair from one week to the other.
