Should you drain the water from the peas?

This question references CHOW's Easy Spinach Dal (Dhal, Dhall) recipe.

    I think the picture is a little misleading but of course you may serve it/consume it anyway you want.

    I have had dals so thin they could be consumed through a straw and sometimes thick enough to be finished off with just a fork. Can't recall ever having one served on rice, though some diners do eat them that way.

    I have seen restaurants where the Indian diners will pour the dal over the rice making a sort of rice soup on the plate or tray and use the bread to help scoop it into a spoon to consume - then ask for more rice.

    Make it as soupy as you like and serve it to your own taste, separate or on rice.


    Nope- you want a nice liquid in the dal. Please let us know how it tastes!
