Ritz Carlton is located within easy walking distance of the hotel we will be staying in. How is their afternoon tea and brunch? What is the price point?

I know being Ritz Carlton it wouldn't be cheap but is it worth the $$$$? I'm especially interested in trying out their afternoon tea. Has anyone been to? I seem to remember reading something positive about it in the past but can't find anything now. Any comment is appreciated.

Happy Eating!

Expensive and deffinately not worth it. The Montreal Rits is not up to the standard of most other Ritzes (imo).
The momey could be used elsewhere with much more satisfying results.

Unfortunately "eatingpal" is right, the Ritz has suffered greatly. Since the early 80's it has switched hands several times with the owners being more concerned about realestate values than running a fine hotel.

Lately it has been taken over by bus tours, with people standing inside the restaurant asking to have their thermos filled with coffee, because their budgets do not allow for room service.

That said the Ritz bar and Le Jardin can be wonderful spots.

On a nice day in Le Jardin with the ducks quacking (providing they are still in the budget and haven't been served up a la magret)it can be quite joyful.

But don't expect the Connaught or other Ritz's service.

For my money The St- James Hotel tea service is hands down the best in Montreal.

A stunning room, excellent service and divine tea etc.

Please let us know of your experience.

I recently read that the Café du Ritz had closed. When I called the hotel to confirm, I was transferred to telephony limbo.

As far as I know, the Jardin -- always the most delightful of surroundings -- is still open and high tea is still served. Like the café, high tea is pricey; unlike the café, it's probably worth it (provided you're into that crustless cucumber sandwiches, crumpets, clotted cream, etc., of course).

God awful service. I had dinner at the Cafe de Paris on a Friday night with my parents last winter. The dining room was empty. Despite this, we waited for over an hour for our dinner. The reason: 45 mins to cook the New York steak because it was ordered well done. Come on.
I agree with the previous comments. The Rtiz is now bus tour central. You will be happy to part with your money at the St. James for tea. Well worth the $.
