Mexican Cheese in Manhattan

So I went to Fairway to get Mexican cheese and they didn't have any. I asked the guy behind the cheese counter (he was making mozzarella balls in hot water for the amusement of the customers) "What happened? You used to have a good selection of Mexican cheeses." He said, "they closed". I said, "Who closed? The company that makes the cheese?" He said, "I don't know, but that's what I heard".

So since I can't get quesos mexicanos at Fairway anymore, what are the remaining best sources in the Chinatown area, Midtown, the UWS or Harlem or anywhere in Manhattan?

  1. Essex Market
    Zaragoza Grocery
Tulcingo del Valle (small store next to dining) and Tehuitzingo (mostly packaged stuff, sometimes fresh)

    1. Spanish Harlem still boasts Manhattan's largest Mexican community. There is a grocery store right outside the 103rd stop on the Lexington line that sells everything from cotija to quesillo.

      1. Las Palomas, 219 W. 100th St. near Broadway, always has a good selection.
