Help! KitchenAid mixer: the hook hits the bowl

I just got my new KitchenAid 8qt stand mixer. I had a tilt head before and have no problem. However, my new toy gives me a new challenge.

When I gave it a test run, with an empty bowl, the dough hook and egg whisk scrape the bowl as the speed goes up. I am wondering if any of you have had this problem before and if you know how to fix the problem.

Thank you for your help!

  1. Wow, 8 quart. That's a beast!

Take it back, no question. This is defective.
If you're sure you've seated everything correctly, this should not happen.

    1. Hi, It sounds like the beater-bowl clearance needs adjustment. I have a 5 qt bowl lift mixer, and the adjustment screw is on the back, visible when the bowl is lowered. Turn it counter-clockwise by quarter-turns to raise the beater. It may have shifted during shipping.
