Frankie and Johnny's

  • 5

I see Frankie and Johnny's has reopened since my last visit, with a face lift to boot, is it basically the same establishment as I've visited on many previous visits before the remodel?

  1. Basically the same, but you don't feel filthy when you walk out anymore. I've gone for crawfish several times since they've reopened and was fairly pleased.

very good news to hear, and i know exactly what you mean. Am i going to be able to get a plate of crawfish next week, still in season?

I wouldn't have them if offered. A neighbor pushed the limits with a Fourth of July boil and it was, predictably, disastrous. But he's from Mississippi and wouldn't listen.

those damn hard headed neighbors...i'll just have to come down next March or April i guess.

Try to come down when Hawk's (which is "in" Rayne....kinda sorta) is open. He washes the crawish on well water and sweetens them. He's usually open in late March and into April.

Lately there has been an unspoken contest of lots of places to make the things thermonuclear. It's the"I can take more heat than you can" routine. Guys who do a balanced approach are being frozen out. Of course, crawfish never were a New Orleans thing...its only been the last 35 or 40 years that they've gotten popular although folks did have them in 1900, just not like we do today.
