Couple of L.A. foodies need help

Howdy....Early September, we two big time foodies from L.A. are arriving for 2 nights. One of our dinners is going to be at the Metropolitan Grill for some great steaks. Where would you have us go, for a great dinner the other night? Cost is not a factor, nor is cuisine, just great food....Thanks!

  1. I think some of the best food in the city now is at The Walrus and the Carpenter in Ballard. We had a fantastic meal there last weekend. If you are a fan of oysters, either raw or fried, it is a must. The vegetables there are also magnificent - who know sliced kohlrabi could be so spectacular? Also, amazing romanesco, blistered padrones, pork rillettes, the amazing small plates just kept coming.

        + 1

Great Northwest shellfish, inventive small plates, and a very good Northwest interior and location.

We didn't make it to Walrus on our visit last week but did manage to snag a reservation at the Whale Wins, which is affiliated. I'd recommend looking at that menu as well. It too has wonderful vegetable dishes--we had an innovative dish involving cauliflower leaves with ham chips, as well as a roasted carrots dish and a starter of tomatoes with mint pesto and hazelnuts. And fabulous clams.
