Good Tamales in Yeg?

I had a Salvadoran tamal at el Paraiso on 118th last week. On our way home we saw a small latin festival celebrating the day of the Virgen de Guadalupe and stopped to try some of the foods being sold. I had a chuchito, which is a guatemalan version of tamal. It was so good that now I don't think I can go back to eating the ones from el Paraiso .

So now I am looking for new places for central american tamales ( as opposed to mexican) in Yeg. Any suggestions?

  1. I felt bad that your post had no comments. So I'm going to post something, might be a dud. I have heard good things about El Rancho Spanish Restaurant at 11810 87 St NW Edmonton, AB, but haven't been there yet.

Sorry, if that doesn't fit what you are looking for.

Thank you Jb. El Rancho seems to be a popular "latin" food place ( not Spanish). Their tamales are competent but not memorable. I heard of a place called Memenche but have not tried it yet.

    2. I recently had lunch at Memenche, a family run restaurant in Chinatown/McCauley at 10831-101 St. Good place to experience home style Central American cuisine, Salvadorean style I believe. Good pupusas. The chicken soup was excellent and I am looking forward to trying their beef tendon and tripe soup {available only on weekends)

I am still looking for good tamales, and I hope for a recommendation for "chuchitos"

      1. My mother-in-law loves tamales, and she had some she liked recently at Rostizado.
