Where are our T-shirts?

Back on June 23 a number of members were asked to preview the new changes to the site. To sweeten the deal the email included this:

<<Oh, and let me know your T-shirt size and address is so we can send you a T-shirt to thank you for your support!>>

It has been almost 3 months since the offer was made. Can we please get an update on the status?

thank you

  1. Just yesterday I was wondering the same thing... Thanks for bringing this up.

    1. I think we bitched too much :) J/K. But I asked for foie gras instead!

Wait--we can substitute other stuff for the shirts? Great to know!

I'll take a couple of ounces of Ossetra. THANKS!

        1. re: davis_sq_pro

One can always ask :) Please note I didn't get an acceptance of that request!

      2. Maybe it's taking them time to have them remade after they decided not to send the t-shirts with the giant blue hearts on them.

OMG, I just spewed coffee on my keyboard!! LOL, thank you!

          1. re: TeRReT

HAH! And I noticed that Jacquilynne hearted that comment as well. Nicely done.

(I still dislike the blue heart for recommend... not that anyone was asking.)

            1. re: LindaWhit

And not that anyone is going to do anything about it :)

          2. Hey guys, thanks for the reminder on this. We've got our shirts, but need to get them all boxed up. We'll keep you posted!

Ok so its now 9/10, almost a month since you last posted. What gives?

              1. re: foodieX2

This thread makes me laugh. Back in the early 2000s, I was one of the volunteer “team” members rolling out a new online system to an organization of almost 2000 employees, all of whom we had to train in the new system. They promised us a lunch (IIRC, it started as a dinner) to thank us for our hard work. That meal never did happen, but, thanks to CH, the team celebrated our great contribution by taking ourselves out for some great Korean bbq that we found recommended on CH.

                1. re: EM23

                  Love it! Similarly:

Four years ago my team was told by management that when we finished a certain major project they would take us on a cruise of the Boston harbor. We finished, and waited. Six months later the celebration materialized: the cruise had somehow morphed into drinks one evening at a bar. Night of, no one from management showed up to pay. We ended up buying our own drinks. A great morale booster to be certain :-)

                2. re: foodieX2

Thanks for your patience, we put the shirts in the mail today!

foodieX2, we don't seem to have info on your preferred shirt size. We emailed you today, so keep an eye out for that, and we'll send you a shirt once we hear back.

                  Thanks!

                  1. re: DeborahL

I guess I was intentionally excluded because you weren't carrying "Big & Tall" sizes. Understandable.

                    1. re: jrvedivici

I recieved a t-shirt like the one grampart recieved, size XXL. I didn't think to request XXLT, but I doubt they have that size.

                      1. re: John E.

Oooh I hope I get that size, it would make nice pajamas!

                        1. re: John E.

                          So I guess you're saying its not a mistake I didn't get one? {{sigh......}}

                          1. re: jrvedivici

Sorry, jr, I got my XXL yesterday, so yes, you're being singled out.

Mine was black, so maybe there's a hidden message there, too?

Thank You Jacq (and her secret replacement)!

                            Aloha,
                            Kaleo

                            1. re: jrvedivici

If you gave them your size (XXL) and street address, I'm sure it is in the mail. Apparently east coast CHers have not recieved the shirts yet. I'm just glad it was not a red t-shirt.

                              1. re: John E.

I wasn't asked for my size or address, this thread is the first I'm learning of any of this. :-(

Once again I'm not one of the cool kids.

                                1. re: John E.

                                  Hi John,

Mine arrived on Friday or Saturday. I'm in Florida.

                                  Duffy

                    2. I got mine. It's a red American Apparel t-shirt with a fun white design (no spoilers...).

                      Thanks!

                          1. re: grampart

This is what I expected it might be. The thing is, I use Chowhound, not CHOW. Perhaps a technicality, but...the site ain't CHOW to me. It's Chowhound that drives people to the site.

I still have a t-shirt with the original Chowhound logo.

                            1. re: LindaWhit

Same here. I always refer to it has Chowhound, but the shirt is free, nice quality, American-made, and I didn't have to do shit to get it. So I say, "Right On, Chow.......................hound!" Thanks again.

                                1. re: Mr Taster

That was when they were selling some items to help fund the CH site when Jim Leff was running the show. I also have a CH fridge magnet.

                                  1. re: LindaWhit

If I knew then what I know now, I would have bought one of the shirts. As it was, the hound always looked a little too scary for me to wear on a shirt.

                                    1. re: mcsheridan

He does have a certain ravenous "I'll eat ANYTHING!" look about him.

                              1. re: grampart

Bummer! I assumed it was going to be a Chowhound tee otherwise I wouldn't have been following up.

                                1. re: grampart

Also, I asked for an XXL, I received an XXL, and it is definitely a men's XXL.

                                  1. re: grampart

It sounds like the shirts they are mailing out have been taken from leftover supplies of various designs. These may well have come from different manufacturers, which would account for differing perceptions of how accurate the sizing is.

                                    1. re: greygarious

sounds like you folks were the last stop before the dumpster.

                                      :/

                                          1. re: sunshine842

Yeah my thought too. But I still didn't get mine today so I guess it's not coming and I'm glad to know I'm not missing out on much ;-) I do love a free T shirt but no biggie either.

                                              Hi coll.

We sent you one the same day as all the others. Hopefully the postal service hasn't lost it!

                                              1. re: DeborahL

Thanks so much for following up with me! We do live in a sort of rural place and our mailman has been known to mix up mail, or take the odd day off....I will let you know when it arrives which it probably will.

Proud to be a Chow (hound).

                                                1. re: coll

Yay it just came! It's skintight (womens)and very nice. Thanks guys.

                              2. Ha... I didn't even know about this.

                                1. Mine arrived yesterday. Brown with "how to fold a burrito". Eh. Me no likey burritos, but the cut is nice.

Should make a good workout shirt :-)

I didn't get mine either, maybe it's an East Coast thing? Let's check notes tomorrow ;-)

                                      1. re: coll

Mine was postmarked San Francisco...so tomorrow should be it.

                                      2. re: roxlet

I ended up declining when Jacquilynne asked via Email, otherwise I could have been on the East Coast checklist as well. I rarely wear t-shirts. It's usually tanks in the summer at home, and in the winter, it's turtlenecks and sweatshirts for when I'm in my comfy clothes. :-)

                                        1. re: LindaWhit

East coaster here too and mine has yet to arrive.

LW- I don't wear Tshirts either, I thought it would be a great gift for my t-shirt collecting husband. Sounds like they are all different, be interesting to see what shows up,

                                          1. re: foodieX2

This Floridian got the black Chow shirt. It showed up on Friday or Saturday.

Given a choice I'd have chosen the burrito shirt (it's a lot more me), but hey, it's free, it fits, it's nice quality, I'm happy with it.

                                            Thanks, Chowhound.

                                            1. re: DuffyH

If we share the same size, I'd be happy to switch :-)

                                              What's on the black one?

                                              1. re: linguafood

                                                Hi linguafood,

That's generous of you. Look upthread at the pic Grampart posted. That's it. The CHOW logo on the front, with "Food. Drink. Fun" below.

                                                Mine's a size L, if you're interested.

                                                Duffy

                                                1. re: DuffyH

Ah, neato. Mine's an M - not sure if that works for ya. It's on the smaller side of an M, too :-D

                                                  1. re: linguafood

The M will work for me if the L works for you.

                                          2. re: LindaWhit

I subscribe to Niles Crane's stance on tee shirts - their only appropriate use is as an article of male underclothing, so I did not take CHOW up on its offer either. Since I am unfavorably impressed by the recent changes, I am especially glad not to be getting a shirt.

                                      3. Hahaha! I asked for a "large," assuming it was for men, and I was going to give it to my husband. It came today, and it is a woman's "large." That "large" fits my size 4 niece who is visiting!

                                        1. re: roxlet

I'm in much the same boat as you, roxlet. I'd asked Jacquilynne for the largest T-shirt they had; I usually take a XXL or XXXL, depending on the cut. The Chow T-shirt that arrived today was what American Apparel laughingly calls an XL; it must be for an extra large child.

I'm no good with judging sizes besides those fit me. So for fun, and for comparison, I decided to take a couple of pictures and post them here. The first picture is of a Logo Athletic T-shirt sold under license from the NFL, and is sized XXL. It's one of my most comfortable T-shirts, and fits me with room to spare.

The second picture I should frame and mount on the wall in place of wearing the shirt. I laid the Chow "bib"on top of the T-shirt. But, hey! You get what you pay for. I don't know what I'm going to do with this shirt; I have no children, and therefore no grandchildren whom it would fit. I suppose I'll figure something out.

                                          1. re: mcsheridan

I will say (and noted this below) that the M was pretty snug. Which is why I think it would work best as a workout shirt.

                                            1. re: linguafood

I jokingly used "bib" in my post above; however, I'm now thinking it may make a good BBQ/lobster bib. :D

Or maybe I can put it on a pole mounted outside when I'm having a party. Let your Chow flag wave!

                                              1. re: linguafood

That's what my niece said she'd use it for -- working out.

                                                1. re: mcsheridan

Tee-shirt fabric makes good dustrags. I've cut up the ones I've been given for various charity efforts.

                                                  1. re: mcsheridan

On behalf of all, thank you for posting this size discrepancy the way you did...

                                                    1. re: kaleokahu

I have not unfolded my XXL. even though I have lost 25lbs in recent months, if these shirts run small I might be in trouble. Also, I don't usually where t-shirts with any lettering. I wear mostly black t-shirts, when I wear them.

(Maybe I can sell it on e-Bay a few years from now to a nostalgic CHer after the demise of this site.)

Ha! You should see my tattooed black eyeliner.

Whoa... my large is definitely a men's large, or a really large ladies large. Since the mediums are so small, I wonder if they thought I was a dude. It wouldn't be the first time.

                                                      Is it a women's cut or a men's cut? If it's a men's, I may just stick to my medium :-)

                                                      1. re: linguafood

I think it's a men's, but it's hard to say. The sleeves aren't overly long on me, but I'm 5'9" with long arms, so that's never a guarantee. Based on yours being smallish, mine being largish, I'd guess it's a mens cut.

We're probably best served to stick with what we've got. :-)

                                                  3. Oh well mine still didn't arrive. Jacquilynne had insinuated that I was the first one to write back at the time, due to a case of insomnia; maybe they're shipping them backwards ;-)

                                                    1. Who knew t-shirts were so controversial?

We are Chowhounds; if there's no controversy working, we'll just up and create one. :)

You would think it would be us, the shirtless, with our piercingly hard nipples in this cold autumn air that would be complaining.

Any chance for some chow pasties at least?

                                                        2. Got mine today. Red American Apparel with several types of knives and a band aid.

Medium, which I guess for American Apparel means a medium-sized Euro guy on a diet of celery and lemoncello. Luckily I've been more into running than food this summer so it just fits, but c'mon, Chow--know your demographic!

                                                            2. I got mine today, same as another's-solid black with the Chow.com logo. Mens XL. Does anyone want it?

KK- just let me know. I won't wear it and my husband won't either. I guess I had the idea they would be "cooler" than they it turned out to be which is why I followed up. Even solid black with a simple "Chowhound"would have been better. This one just looks like something you'd pick up at a trade show.

                                                                  1. re: foodieX2
