Crystal Springs Resort Vernon

We will be staying at this resort next month. I checked and the restos don't seem to be that good at the resort . Looking to get some ideas of other places in the area . Any ideas??

  1. I really don't think you will find a better restaurant than Latour...but you may consider theses two.

Restaurant Latour just received an "Excellent" from the NY Times. Very few NJ restaurants have ever received this rating.

Apparently, this is not the type of place the OP is looking for, given that she has not acknowledged it in any of the threads she's started looking for suggestions. She's indicated she's looking for steaks, and or seafood.

Yes, I know. My post was really meant for you and others. It will be interesting to learn where the OP ends up.

That's great, quite an achievement but my goodness, the prices there just seem rather rich for Sussex, and I'm not even talking about Latour's prices (which are comparable to high-end NY).

      2. Staying at Minerals in Vernon or at Grand Cascades in Hardyston?

Also, what exactly are you looking for? For high end, Latour is supposed to be excellent, but I don't think the other resort dining options are all that great. Look to Sparta, NJ or Warwick, NY for better choices.

Best breakfasts in the area can be found at Hamburg Hot Bagels or Granny's Pancake House. Homestead Rest on 94 in Sparta is reliable for sandwiches & burgers, and the diner in Sparta is very good. (better than the Jefferson Diner on Rte 15, which is overrated IMO)

Have read good reviews of Cravin' Thai in Hamburg, and a new Asian place on Rte 23 in Sussex, but haven't tried either.

is the Mixing Bowl still open in Vernon (for breakfast)?

          1. re: Mr. Bingley

I think so. Don't go up that way in the mornings much, but if Yelp is any indication, it is.

We are at Minerals..any more ideas???

            1. re: Barbarella

If you're up for a 35/40 min or so drive, there is Salt Gastro Pub in Stanhope. It's quite good, and IMHO worth the drive.

Also Alice's in Lake Hopatcong is quite good,

You really think it takes that long to get to Salt???

Nice ride though if you have a convertible or motorcycle

                1. re: tommygphotos

Yes, Tommy it does take 35/40 minutes. Minerals is in Vernon and I have on more than one occasion driven the ~25 miles from the general Vernon area to Salt (or the Stanhope area). I also just checked on Googlemaps and it quotes a 37 min commute time. So I'd say my off the top of my head guesstimate was pretty spot on :-) You are quite correct though that it is a pretty, bucolic, scenic drive.

          3. Sunday brunch at Perona farms would be a good option.
