Q&A

Firefly, any good these days?

So I'm currently making reservations for my trip at the end of September and was wondering everyones thoughts on this place.

I remember wanting to go years ago but never getting there. Then I heard it went downhill after they opened a second place. Now I've heard its good again.

Worth checking out? Or no? Of course, doesn't mean I'll actually get there, but am curious.

How about this for an answer - Firefly may have never really been all that good. This was not a group from Spain wanting to bring "Tapas" to Las Vegas, where it was almost entirely lacking pre-Serrano/Andres, but instead a carefully crafted business blueprint to mimic the emerging popularity of the concept, and possibly expand (franchise). It was an early hit because the notion of tapas was new to a lot of their customers, and it had a decent social vibe for the younger crowd. But the food has never been much more than average, focusing on a lot of basic dishes that are hard to do screw up (with a saltiness to drive liquor sales), and never seeming to have Pride at the same level as Profits. Now that Jaleo and Serrano are here, Firefly does not need to be on anyone's short list.

Uhockey, if you don't mind eating LATE night on 9/27 I might be up for it(maybe Raku?). However thats my b-day and could end up an insane night. Just a thought, but let me know if that works. I still have so much planning to do for my trip.

Right now, I have a preliminary res at Yusho that night(could easily be cancelled) but definitely going to the Barrett/Jackson auto auctions (not bidding, i wish) in the afternoon and Crosby Stills and Nash earlier in the night. Going to be a hell of a day/night!!!

I'm down for dining with any of you good folks on 9/27 or 10/4.

LVI, as much as I'd love to join you at LOS, I actually leave Friday morning Oct. 3...I'm in town from the 24th of Sept through Oct. 3rd.

    LVI/LIC:

Although I will not likely be able to join in other than Thursday night, by early October I would think - http://takeshi-omae.com/japanese_cuis... should be hitting stride, and be a worthy target (they will begin dinner service on September 1st, although it will be BYOB for a while). Since there are only 12 seats, it is a scheduling commitment that may need to be made well in advance.

LIC besides the Thurs night we are going to try and see QAW at BM, any interest in a possible China Mama lunch, Palace Station Oyster Bar, LoS or any other gathering? Oct 2-6 fast approaching and OCD going into Hyper Drive. I'd ask QAW but I know he's checked out after pick up at LoS Friday....wait how about Friday lunch at Lotus? Always one of my favorites!

    Firefly has had it's challenges:

Aside from these issues it was never that great to begin with....

I could be very wrong but I thought I read somewhere about several health code violations shutting one of the locations down.

What QAW says. To be fair, I haven't been to either Firefly in many years, but the two times I tried the Paradise Rd. location, I was mystified by the place's popularity. In fairness, I don't think Firefly even pretends to serve authentic Spanish tapas. I think you can do better, Chef.

So if you post a "question" the other answers people post disappear? Uhockey posted one and I don't see it now. Should've gone with a "discussion" oh well. Or maybe it just isn't showing up from my phone.
