Dinner stop near 90 in Massachusetts or 95 in Maine?

  • 8

Hello all! We will be driving from the Portland area to Fairfield County (Conn.) via 95 and 90 next week. Any recommendations for a decent dinner en route? Thanks!

  1. BT's Smokehouse in Sturbridge Ma. 1 mile off I-84. Best BBQ I've had in New England hands down (just there last week). Closed Mondays. Buy far the best and easiest on/off the highway enroute.

Bobbert said it all. BT's is BBQ done right. They are at the top of my list of the BBQ places around New England I've tried.

Yup yup and yup! Great hush puppies and desserts too.

Right around the corner is Rascallion brewery where you can pick up a growler to enjoy with your Q as BT's is BYOB.

...and per your advice from another thread I split the brisket reuben with my son - unbelievably good (and sloppy in such a good way). We also split a full rack of St. Louis ribs for way too much food. My son, who claims not to be into BBQ, has been converted.

Good to hear we are on the same page and you enjoyed. Brisket heaven. It's not a low-cal experience, but whatever ---- we have to eat well once in a while.

BT's french fries are pretty darn good too. Not that I would go to a place just for fries - it's simply another bonus about the place. Next time I'm definitely doing the Ruben. The visual is still in my head.

      2. Another option if you are book lover and enjoy american comfort food is the Traveler Restaurant. Easy on and off the main highway. It's aused book store and restaurant combined. The food is not gourmet, it's not fancy and it won't light the world on fire but you get a free book with your meal and if you have kids they will love it.

        1. Thanks everyone! BT's sounds great. I love seeing unanimous recommendations. I know my son and husband will be especially thrilled.

          1. As I wrote on the wall of the men's room at BT's (which is cool, since it's a chalkboard) "best brisket east of Luling, Texas."
            Don't miss it.
