Any vegan subs for creme freche?

I found this recipe that looks amazing and would like to make it, but I am dairy-free. Any ideas?

  1. Coconut milk would be good in that, well mixed.

      Or you could make a basic cashew cream- best with raw cashews soaked overnight

      1. If you're OK with soy, silken tofu, drained in a papertowel-lined sieve overnight, then blended well with a little umeboshi (either whole plum or paste) is a pretty good substitute. A vegan cream cheese blended with a little lemon juice and some non-dairy milk is good, too.

        1. Do you have access to a vegan plain yoghurt that is sour and without any added sweeteners? I find that mixed with a splash of apple cider vinegar works best for me in any recipe calling for sour cream or crème fraîche. It's not as thick, but the flavour works well.

          Come to think of it, a vegan sour cream with a splash of a souring agent would work fine too.
