Houston is on a Chowhound blog.
Really great article. But, I do wonder about the mention of "Killen's Barbecue" as being possibly the best in the state.
I can't recall reading about it anywhere here. Have I overlooked it? Have some of y'all eaten there? What did you think? Did you post a review?
Is it worth a trip into town from the outlying provinces (keeping in mind that I have no interest in "brontosaurus-sized ribs," but a very big interest in brisket and sausage)?
Jaymes, The brisket at Killen's is fantastic. The ribs are outstanding. The smoked turkey, the sausage, the pork belly, the creamed corn sides. you pick.
If you google Killen's BBQ, you'll find a ton of press from Texas Monthly to Houston Chronicle.
Tried Killen's today. Beef rib was indeed outstanding, but I thought the piece of brisket I had was just okay (but others I was with really loved it, so maybe I had a dud piece). Turkey and pork ribs were both very good, sausage was also quite good. Beans were great and the mac & cheese was delicious. The best barbecue I have had in Houston for sure (but I have not been everywhere).
