Memphis casual dining
We've been visiting family for almost 3 weeks now and have been using Yelp, Urbanspoon and TripAdvisor to find food. So far the sushi, Chinese, catfish, seafood etc has been meh even though reviews are decent. My in-laws took us to Catfish Cabin last night and that was horrible!
We're going to Central BBQ and Gus/Guy's chicken next to check it out but I need a casual non-chain restaurant with a good variety on the menu (there is a vegetarian, somebody who doesn't do Chinese and another who doesn't do fried) for our last meal/get together with the family suggestion. I am looking for casual since majority of our family are not upscale restaurant goers or even foodie. Thoughts?
Also, my husband hasn't been home in 5yrs. He hasn't had Memphis BBQ in about 10yrs. Back then he liked the Rendezvous. The reviews are mixed. Is this the kind of place that one either love or hate depending on how you like your BBQ? Kind of like a Coke or Pepsi preference?
3 of my favorites that, I think, meet your criteria are Hog & Hominy, The Elegant Farmer, and Majestic Grille. They all have menus online.
I've been eating at the Rendezvous all my life. I don't hate it, but it's nowhere near being a favorite. But there are people among my friends/family who will only eat ribs there. It's usually a fun time, and I usually get a sausage and cheese plate, then lamb ribs or shrimp. I think the mood/ambience and crowds sometime make it seem better than it is.
You need to try out Elwoods Shack! It epitomizes "casual dining", but the food is stellar and out-of-this-world!!!!
