Best eats near Ogunquit, Maine

Hi. I'm traveling to Ogunquit with 19 year old twin boys from Aug. 1 - 8. We are adventurous eaters and are looking for best meal suggestions in that general area. We'll be staying in Ogunquit for a week, so are looking primarily for lunch and dinner spots - casual, good food. Willing to travel off the beaten path. Any unique/local standouts would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. I don't know if you're going to find much that's adventurous but there's certainly a lot of good food. I do suggest you type Ogunquit into the search box in the upper right. You're going to find a LOT of suggestions for the area, and recent ones, too. Here are my recommendations, based on my most recent (last Sept.) trip:

I'm fond of Billy's Chowder House for good, solid Maine eats.

I've also come around about Maine Diner and revised my opinion about them somewhat. I still don't think it's worth waiting 45 minutes in line before you get a seat there, but take that with a grain of salt. I live in the country in a rural state, and I'm a large woman with a larger husband, and standing around for a long time isn't easy on us. There just aren't many places I consider worth waiting 45 minutes to be seated. If you're from an urban area, you may be more used to waiting. :) Maine Diner has some good, hearty and tasty dishes, and you can get a butter only lobster roll there that's plenty stuffed with lobster.

Varanos is nice, but I found it a tad overpriced for the quality of the food, though there's certainly a lot of it. There's another place owned by that same family (they also own Billy's Chowder House), like across the street, something like Fire and Brew or something. More casual with pizzas, burgers, and such.

Jonathan's is great and superior to Varano's (and also, is in Ogunquit rather than Wells), but fancier, less casual.

    1. Johnathan's
      Fox's Lobster
      Fisherman's Catch
      The Steakhouse
Wells Beach Burgers (and ice cream)
Mabel's in Kennebunkport, Allison's in Kennebunkport
Merriland Farms Café for a great breakfast!

Not an area where you'll have any trouble at all finding yummy eats.

oh, and everybody's gotta try a Flo's Hot Dog once in their life!

Wells Beach Burgers is out of business.
