Breakfast near Stonington, Maine

  • 7

Any recommendations for a classic dine-in breakfast eatery in or around Stonington/Deer Isle, Maine? I'd like to enjoy some hearty, traditional breakfast fare prior to boarding the morning ferry from Stonington to Isle au Haut when I visit that area in a few weeks.

I had initially planned on eating breakfast in Castine, but just found out that it's a lot farther from the Stonington ferry than I'd realized (about 1 hour). :/

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Suzy Q's is great. Awesome blueberry pancakes, muffins, and other baked goods. Crab quiche is notable as well as other egg dishes. The ladies who run it are sweethearts.

Harbor Cafe next to the town Hall in Stonington, is not bad either. It has a bigger and more traditional menu. They have a crab stew that I love but probably not available for breakfast.

Great, thanks for all the feedback, msmimish!

    2. Expanding my search to include the adjacent Blue Hill peninsula, here are some places that I've found by researching other sites. I'd love any feedback from people who have visited these places, as they all sound great:

      1) Blue Hill Inn in Blue Hill
It's a bed-and-breakfast inn, but it appears that their breakfast might be open to the public. They're supposed to have great blueberry pancakes, waffles with strawberries, French toast, and eggs locally sourced from their own flock of chickens.

      2) Millbrook Company Restaurant and Bakery in Sedgwick
This is a newer place that opened last year in the building that used to house the long-shuttered Country View Drive-In. They serve a full breakfast and seem to be especially famous for their sticky buns and other baked goods.

      3) The Breakfast Shed in Brooksville
This is a B&B in that serves a breakfast which is open to the public on weekends. There isn't too much intel on this place, but the little that I've read has been very positive. Has anyone on this board eaten here?

By the way, I've confirmed that the Blue Hill Inn does serve breakfast to non-guests for $16/person. So I'll definitely be eating there during my upcoming trip to the area.

They said that they serve blueberry pancakes everyday plus a choice of several other breakfast entrees.

Millbrook is excellent. Sticky buns and other baked goods are to die for. Not to mention a spectacular view on Caterpillar Hill. If you are in Stonington on a Friday Morning from 10AM-12, you must go to the Farmers Market where Millbrook sells, along with numerous other local farmers, artisans etc. One of the best in the area and across from Susie Q's.
