Grocery store on our way?

  • 9

we are driving from Logan airport in Boston to kennebunkport Maine. I need to stop on the way to pick up some essentials like almond milk, organic string cheese, baby yogurt and organic fruit for the kids. Is there a convenient whole foods or grocery store chain I don't know? I'm not from the region. Really appreciate the help!

    1. Thanks. Ideally I would stop on the way from the airport. Anything you can recommend? Appreciate it!

Oh sugar! I keep thinking Kennebunkport is on the other side of Portland for some reason. I'm a dork.

There's a Trader Joe's in Portsmouth NH according to their website:

also, did a google for natural foods stores and came up with this in Kennebunk:

I think the TJs in Saugus is the easiest--right there on the right side of Rt 1, easy to get in and out. I think they built it to get the northbound traffic before they had any stores in Maine or NH.

Just noting here for completeness.. Everything in Portsmouth is pretty easy to get at.

      2. There's no Whole Foods on the way from Logan to southern Maine. The nearest on your route is likely in Lynnfield...you can look up directions and judge if it'll be too far out of your way, tho.

There's a Hannaford and a Trader Joe's very near one another on Route 1 in Saugus, which you'll pass.

The only Whole Foods in Maine is in Portland, in the neighborhood of 40 minutes away from you in Kennebunkport.

I don't know a whole bunch about Kennebunkport local options--I know there's a farmers market (saturday) and and chain grocery stores like hannaford and shaws, as well as many other small shops and markets, but I'm not sure about the selection/options so hopefully someone more familiar with part of Maine will chime in!

        1. There is a Hannaford on Route 1 in Kennebunk (next door to K'Port) - Hannaford and Shaws are our two major grocery store chains (Hannaford is better, IMO). It will have all the organic food you are seeking.

          1. Philbricks Fresh Market in Portsmouth might cover what you need, but it is pricey...more so than whole foods.

            1. There's a mini-Hannaford in downtown Kennebunk, and a larger one just up the road a bit. 10 minutes drive from Kennebunkport.
