Dragonmeade + Lazybones Menu (Dragonbones) - Detroit Suburbs
Guys, I hate to post or ask this but would rather say something than see a business I really enjoy take a bigger hit.
We enjoy (about 2-3x a month) Dragonmeade beer. We really esteem Lazybones food (pulled pork, brisket, the wonderful smoked chicken, the amazing pit beans...). When we used to head to the east side we'd pick up Lazybones and take it to Dragonmeade for a great dinner with great IPAs and friendly service.
D'meade now (i) is no longer BYO food and (ii) has a permanent Lazybones-inspired or supplied menu. We (singly and jointly) are not loving the perm. menu (meat plate is OK, cheese plate is OK, chili is not great, none of the things we loved before are available) and therefore partaking much less - it's not that much fun to drive to Lazybones for carryout and then back to the Hills of Beverly to eat it.
I feel like this combo is not helping either business involved - has anyone else had this experience? I'd love to constructively mention it to D'meade - they have great drinks and Lazybones has great food, and this combo is not showing off the pairing to their best advantages. I'd love to go back and have a Broken Rudder IPA and really good food there again...
I haven't actually experienced it myself, but I remember reading about this before/while it was happening. The new menu is very German-oriented, and it is of basically no interest to me. I can see why you're disappointed, and you should definitely speak up to them.
For me, it just doesn't matter. I don't drink beer, and I like BBQ plenty without it.
I've ordered LB delivery into Dragonmeade a couple few times and thought it was really cool. The LB phone (counter) folks reported growing weary of buzzed callers. (Not me ;-) )
I can't imagine Dragonmeade having good food of their own. Guess I'll just have to go with beer only. Thanks for the heads up.
That being said, Lazybones can be pretty inconsistent, which drives me crazy. Went there the night before last and the sides such as beans (maybe too meaty), greens and mac & cheese were all solid (much better than a few years ago), and the pulled pork was excellent. But, my fave burnt ends were tough and forgettable, and the ribs were inedible dry rubber. I go once per quarter and never know what to expect from visit to visit.
