What the hey?

I know we have an international audience, but how many Chowhounds understand this ad?

  1. The question is, what did you post or search for to warrant that ad popping up?

Whatever I post or search for, it's definitely in English. I don't even copy/paste in languages that don't use our alphabet. If the ghost in the machine follows what you read on Chow, then it may be bleed-through from what another poster uses. I dunno.

    2. I do, but I live in Japan. These days I see a whole lot of ads for the Olive Pit in rural California as well.

A nihonjin friend tells me the advertiser, Gurunavi—GURUme (foodie, gourmet) + NAVIgator—promises to recommend venues for dates, drinking parties, private groups, and girls'-night-out gatherings called joshi-kai, among other occasions.

      1. I get most of my ads on here in Spanish, not sure why although someone here told me it has to do with where I live (New York). I get a lot of Spanish spam emails too, no idea why really. I can speak the language in a rudimentary fashion, but I don't communicate with anyone online that way.

Many of my ads are in Spanish, too - I'm also in New York and not really looking at Spanish language sites.

Guess whoever told me that was right, then.

        2. I'd prefer that to the dozens...and dozens of ads for plus-sized women's clothing that I can't seem to stop getting. I'm not plus-sized, dammit! If I had a nickel for every zulily ad I had to look at I could probably buy the whole darn company.

That does seem like a waste of the advertiser's dollar though.
