Gems In Yakima?

The Yakima site is lacking for dining ideas.
Anyone had good (or bad) meals there?

  1. Antojitos Mexicanos is a traditional stop for me. Handmade tortillas and excellent food all around.

The asparagus tamales at Los Hernandez Tamales just over in Union Gap are good. (I liked 'em, but some people go crazy for them)

Not dining, but I'd mention that Bale Breaker brewing is making some of the best hoppy beer in the state right now.

      Wow thanks.
I've been to Los Hernandez but they didn't have any Asparagus when I was there.
      Bale Breaker here I come.

I love the asparagus tamales, but they're available only during asparagus season.

    2. Trip Report

      Dined at Birchfield Manor.

Excellent in all regards. One seating at 7:00. Reservations required.

Lamb chops and cabernet are about as local as it gets for the main course. I thought it a good sign they didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked because...there is only one way, pink and juicy and that's exactly how they turned out. Half a rack was served cut into 6 ribs ready to eat. Couldn't have been better.

Also, a very nice and manageable selection of Washington wines which seemed to each be at a fair price.

Bale Breaker brewery had the usual suspects of home brew in a modern industrial setting but the standout was the BBQ truck in the back by the name of "Kims Got Smoke."
Her dad built the rig from plans out of Kansas and the BBQ shows the excellent results.

Between Birchfield Manor and Kims Got Smoke at Bale Breaker brewery we had a ball.

Thanks for the report. We'll try Birchfield the next time we're in Yakima!
