Getting into Island Creek Oyster Bar

Going to see Gogol Bordello at House of Blues on Friday (watch this: http://youtu.be/p_81l4DXlwM) and thinking of hitting ICOB with a group of 3 or 4 beforehand. No reservations available. No Red Sox game. Any advice on getting in? Assuming we want to be at HOB around 8:30 or so, can we show up at ICOG at, say, 6:30 and expect to be seated at a table or at the bar in time to get out around 8:15 or so?

  1. Take the pressure off you and go as early as you can.

    1. Did you call, or check Open Table? Sometimes if you call, they'll have spots not listed, particularly early (say 5:30 or 6)

I have been able to get a res by calling even when Open Table did not have slots. Can't remember exactly when. In any event, I would definitely say to go very early. I have waited 45 minutes there even with a reservation. Still worth it, but since you have a show to get to...

      1. At 6:30 I'd say no. That's not a great plan on a Friday night.

        Maybe 5:30...

        1. Call to see if they have any reservations that are not on OpenTable (there often are). If not go as early as possible (I think they open for dinner at 5, oysters and raw bar at 4). Bar seats (except for the few at the far end ) are first come, first served.

          1. Thanks for the suggestion of calling. They did offer me a 5:00 table, but I think if we were to show up that early, we'd just assume sit at the bar, so I declined.

Bar seats at ICOB are managed by the hostesses, they are popular as well, no guarantee that you'd snag one or more at 5:00.

I hear you. Just not looking to eat at 5pm and be done by 6:30 or even 7pm. Not a problem if we need to wait a bit.

Will they call you if you put your name in with the hostess in person and then go next door to Hawthorne for drinks?

            2. Anything is possible but I don't think that's realistic.

              1. How did it go? Did you get to eat at ICOB? How long was the wait? Thanks!

Unfortunately, my plans that night changed. I made it to the show (amazing!), but didn't get across the river early enough to eat. Gonna try again in two weeks and will report back (though haven't yet looked to see if that's a Sox weekend).
