July 23 is National Hot Dog Day
In case you're wondering what to have for dinner. 90F here; sounds good to me!
I wonder if a limit to the number of natural casing dogs has been reached. My local Safeway has no natural casing dogs, even the Hebrew national and Nathan's are snapless.
Raining in western Washington, hopefully it will put out the fire on the dry side and end the burn bans.
I've been craving hot dogs, and last night I impulse-bought a package of Boar's Head natural casing all-beef hot dogs, since it came with a free jar of Boar's Head deli-style mustard. (I usually buy Ba-Tampte mustard, but it was worth a try.) I made two last night, pan-grilled with Ba-Tampte and sauerkraut on two Publix bakery buns (also grilled in the pan), and they totally hit the spot.
I'm typically a big Sabrett fan, but I've recently discovered I love Boar's Head, for the snap of the natural casing.
The grill is already heating, beans and kraut are simmering on the stovetop. Cole Slaw, Potato Salad and Macaroni Salad are in the fridge.
The hot dogs will go on at 5:55 PM and supper on the table at 6. and since eldest daughter is home from the sea, the beer is cold in the fridge in the pool house.
Hot dogs were my family's supper every Saturday night during my youth...to me they still make for a great casual supper!
