Similar to Claude Postel

Dating my self to the Dark Ages. On our honeymoon nearly 20 years ago, my husband & I enjoyed a very special evening at Claude Postel. So sad it is gone. Returning to Montreal this fall and seek something similiar. If any of you Hounds (or your parents, grandparents!) have a suggestion, we'd be very grateful. Thank you so much.

  1. Maison Christian Faure. Also in the Old Montreal and everything is better than it was at Claude Postel (well the Claude Postel from 6-7 years ago, I don't know about 20 years ago!). Also Olive et Gourmando for sandwiches and viennoiseries, but they don't have french pastries.

    1. I take it you mean the fine dining restaurant that pre-dated the cafe? That's going way back.

For fine dining in Montreal, I like:

Le Club Chasse et Peche - modern French/Quebecoise, Old Port, odd but hip atmosphere

Toque! - modern/modernist French-Quebecoise (more modern technique than CCeP), corporate atmosphere, probably the most Michelin ready joint in Montreal unless

      Europea - French, downtown, intimate.

La Chronique - Market French, just moved to a lovely new space, very romantic with light, traditional cooking.

Not sure if any of those fit the bill, but they're a starting point. Google them and see if any of them fit the bill. While I can't say any of them are like Claude Postel in its prime, I can say that all are very, very good.
