Local food between Phoenix and Flagstaff?

Driving from the airport in Phoenix to Flagstaff and would love to stop for some great local food on the way. Any suggestions? Thank you!

  1. There's not much along the way, but the Rock Springs Cafe at the Black Canyon City exit on I17 is a well known stop for pie. Also, Carolina's Mexican Food is very close to the airport - good, cheap, satisfying and definitely local! They also make the best and biggest flour tortillas around - a good AZ gift that travels well.
If you happen to be in terminal 2 at Sky Harbor, there's a beautiful exhibit on the lobby side of security of paintings of the Verde River and environs. Not to be missed! Oh, this does relate to chow - images of lush, inspiring, potential picnic spots!

P.S. Be sure to carry plenty of water - it's long drive, with very few places to stop between Phoenix and Flag.
