Uni in Santa Barbara

One of my all time favorite foods to eat is Uni and I know Santa Barbara is the source of some of the best around...
I"m heading down this weekend from the bay area to SB and would love to score a tray or two of this amazing delicacy.
Advice on where to find some is greatly appreciated.

  1. Arigato could be your best bet, on State Street in the 1200 block. Or try the restaurants in the SB Harbor area. I don't have first hand knowledge about this but know Arigato gets the best reviews of sushi here.

    1. I believe that peak season is in October.

While I haven't been there, Hungry Cat has been mentioned in the past on this board as the place to get live local uni. You might call to see if it's on the menu.

As far as trays, I wonder if the Santa Monica Seafood branch in SB might carry uni.

      1. Santa Barbara Fish Market talks about sea urchin on its blog.

It posted an hour ago on FB that uni is on special this week (though doesn't mention if it is local),
40 gram Uni Trays (Sea Urchin) $5.95 each

Yes - I ended up at the Hungry Cat by accident = they had live uni on the menu that night - I was in town for the SB Fermentation Festival and didn't have a chance to get to a market to get a tray....Thanks for all tips!
