Hi,

Any recs for a good restaurant near the Forum? I always go to Miso before I catch a flick, I'd like to try something new. I've heard really bad comments re Guido & Angelina and I don't like chains in general. Kaizen is apparently very expensive. Mid-range please. Thanks!

same owners as The Tavern on Monkland. Mains range from 12-22 approx. Good food, hip atmosphere. It's at the corner of St. Cath and Wood Ave, in Westmount square.

there's a bunch of great noodle shops and chinese food on ste-catherine just east of the forum. and it's not that far from rococo (1650 lincoln, just west of guy) which has great hungarian food. and after a big plate of goulash, a little walk to a film is always a good idea.

Here are a couple of nearby places I have eaten at and liked:

Au Bistro Gourmet, 2100, rue Saint-Mathieu – semi-downstairs, Nice, very small French; limited lunch menu but excellent value. Reservations advised. Telephone: 846-1553. Dinner daily at 5, weekday lunches.

Alpenhaus: 1279, St Marc; Swiss-German restaurant with straightforward, traditional hearty fare; a variety of fondues too.

Bombay Palace (Indian) 2201 Ste-Catherine West within two blocks of the Forum

How far is near?

Cuisine Bangkok in the Faubourg Ste-Catherine for street-stall Thai. Le Paris on Ste-Catherine St., if only for the brandade de morue and Saturday lunchtime roast chicken. Meilleur Choix on St-Marc south of Lincoln for insanely cheap noodles and stir-fries.

About 5 blocks from the Forum, Min Zaman on Lincoln just west of Guy has some good, very cheap home-style Lebanese food.

Moe's is also an option for some old-school diner fare, just west of the Forum.

clarifying that 'MOE's' is the diner named "casse croute du coin", corner DeMaisonneuve/Lambert Closse.

It's open 24/7 and the food is indeed half-decent. :)

Try La Rotisserie on St. Catherine, a few blocks east of the AMC. Good, inexpensive, homestyle pasta. The Habs used to eat there when they still played at the old Forum! There's also a good Iranian restauarnt on corner of St. Mathieu (I think) that just opened. I can't recall the name though.
