Boneless, Skinless chicken breasts with off texture

Purchased several family size packages of boneless, skinless chicken breasts and find the texture to be dense and tough. Is this a product of age/size of the chickens? These pieces weighed in at 8 oz. plus each!

  1. Could be water-injected, that makes them rubbery. Any package that states "seasoned" can be water-injected chicken.

    1. Most likely injected with water or salt water. I can't buy grocery store chicken any more for that reason.

      1. If brined too long, as others have noted, it gets rubbery.

        1. Factory farmed chicken is like that.

          I wont buy it ever.

          1. If they were injected with a brine solution the label must state that. If the label doesn't state so, then they were probably from old hens. I've stopped buying packages of chicken breasts of any type, because the breasts are too big, and the meat is rubbery, dense and tasteless.
