French blogger fined for restaurant comment

Interesting - although it seems its still OK to be critical but be careful of the headlines as they can make the comment too prominent in search engines......

  1. Does this mean that she can then counter-sue Google for making the ranking?

This makes no sense. I wish she had gotten a lawyer.

It rarely makes a difference in France. Getting a lawyer that is. Different system.

    2. This is all under French law. The laws in the US re slander and defamation are very different. And it appears that it was the headline that was the primary issue, as opposed to the blog itself.

      1. this seems to be a trend -- there have been some lawsuits recently in the US about Yelp and Angie's List -- those have ended similarly.

While it has to be balanced, I'm not sure it's a bad thing to try to make it so that a single reviewer with an axe to grind no longer has the power to kill someone's livelihood.

        1. " €1,500 "
Ohhh, I'm jealous, you can't buy the pr she got for €1,500.

LOL. Work on it, John. With your Google placements, all you need is the right headline. :)

          2. wonder if the resto had many positive reviews....
