The Lost Kitchen Re-Opening in Freedom, Maine

  • 3

Anyone have the early scoop on the The Lost Kitchen re-opening? And for someone traveling from outside of Maine, what are the lodging options nearest to Freedom?

  1. yes! It is open and thriving! Went there for dinner a few weeks ago and it was beyond amazing. This girl can cook! I would recommend staying in Belfast--it's about a 15 minute drive from Freedom and has some good inn options.

    1. JB, can you say a little more about your meal, since there's not yet a menu on line? Have also heard via the grapevine (pun intended) that the wine list is good and very reasonably priced.

It was 5 course prix fixe that night--started with radishes and homemade butter and local tinder hearth bread, then had one delicious fried oyster (from the Bagaduce)…on to skillet roasted clams with garlic scapes, tea-brined duck confit on bed of lentils and then there was a lovely little gem lettuce salad with edible flowers and herbs and a local maine cheese course ending with a strawberry shortcake on a ginger scone (which kinda blew my mind!) She was also having fun that night with elderflowers so she fried some up like a sweet tempura drizzled with honey. Wines are really good and interesting (and yes, very reasonable). We had a white burgundy and a great american pinot for around 25 each. It's a really fun experience to go down to the wine cellar and pick out your bottles--the gal running the space is also super knowledgable about what pairs well with the meal that night.
