One dinner

Hi all
I will be in town for one night in August since moving to central Virginia in 2012. I don't know the latest spots but I would like a comfortable spot with great food and wine. Any cuisine except no Asian options please. Location is flexible I have already traveled from virginia so a cab ride is no problem. Price say entrees less than 40 dollars.
Thanks in advance
adi

  1. What night / date will you be in NYC?

Any other preferences besides entrees less than $40?

    1. Pearl & Ash.
      Racine's.

Just mentioning those because of your interest in wine.

Search here and on google for CH posts on Racine's have failed me. I have tried to get in a couple of times and they were full. I am very curious as to how the food is. I'm sure the wine choices are good. I understand the chef is French and has experience from Michelin restaurant in Paris. Has anyone eaten at Racine's?
I'd love to hear some CH opinions

I had the five course tasting menu at Racines within the last month. There was one real hit, which was a scallop dish with hazlenuts that was absolutely superb. The dessert was a total miss, so much so that I refused to eat it (Coffee panna cotta with mint, citrus, and hot chocolate - too much going on). And then we found the rest of the food to be good: a dish involving raw trout was good but I didn't appreciate the texture of the fish, a foie gras course for which it is difficult to go wrong, and the chicken which was a little bit boring but the pressed leg on the side was tasty.

Overall, it had a great high and a great low.

      2. Hearth was just awarded best wine list in North America. Definitely great food and comfortable.

But do they have great food and service? Not the last time I was there, though that was probably 5 years ago, so maybe it shouldn't count.

        2. Highly recommend The NoMad and Betony.

          1. If you don't mind an "energetic" atmosphere I would suggest Estela, great food and a finely done funky winelist.
