Not the usual question

I have a beautiful corset I'd like to wear out to dinner. Does anyone have a suggestion of where to go without feeling awkward? The usual restaurant haunts (EMP, Jean George, etc) don't feel appropriate.

  1. I would look at The Heath or Gallow Green at the McKittrick Hotel (home to Sleep No More).

Additionally, Atlas Obscura often has cocktail parties in unusual venues, so that might work as well.

    1. I can't think of a single place where I'd feel comfortable wearing a corset.

Well, we all have our particular interests.

            Who doesn't like corsets?

have you ever try to put that thing on? I didn't like it one bit.

                OK: On OTHER people.

      2. Having tried to be funny, I'll try to be useful.

Downtown places like Pearl & Ash or Rosette should be fine. Fung Tu -- although it might seem too dressy there. Even The Dutch.

Really, if you stay downtown, you could where it lots of places.

          Narcissa, certainly.

          You get the idea.

        2. If you're looking for fancier places (I guess this is a REALLY NICE corset), you'd be fine (if possibly a bit overdressed) at The NoMad.

Batard (and Bouley, for that matter), although downtown, are probably too staid.

You know, people don't OPEN fancy places in New York anymore.

Unfortunately, you can't eat beautiful people. And the food there just doesn't make it.

            2. I'll preface this by saying I haven't been, but Kitty's Canteen in the LES was designed by artist Molly Crabapple. If you're unfamiliar, I'd encourage you to check out her work, but not while at work. without knowing too much about it, I'd say any place featuring artwork by Molly Crabapple would be an appropriate place to wear a corset. it could be required attire, for all i know.

              1. If you style it under an open jacket with skinny jeans then you could eat almost anywhere (aside from the most fancy ones) and then lose the jacket for cocktails afterwards.... I kinda can't imagine eating much of anything while wearing a corset now that i think about it.

I'd add to the list buddakan, and afterwards go to the top of the standard hotel. Maybe little owl, and +1 for pearl and ash.

But if you look confidant and don't fidgit anywhere downtown could work- its all about attitude!
