London: Dabbous or &Kitchen Table
anyone been to either place or both places recently? If so which would you choose if you had to pick one? My friend and I are coming down to London in October (Dabbous has a table) and these were the choices for our fancy/trendy dinner. The other places we plan on eating that weekend are Gauthier, Maltby St Market, Jose, Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar, 8 Hoxton Square, Ember Yard.
I've done both in the past year - they are pretty similar overall and both very enjoyable. Kitchen Table is a no choice long tasting menu where you watch the food get plated, talk with the chef etc, essentially a food blogger's wildest dream. The quality is very high and there will be unusual dishes and ingredients and the atmosphere is very nice - service is very good.
Dabbous has some very skilled and clever cooking in the current fashionable decor of what is essentially an iron cage. Bit more menu choice.
Personally I'd go for Kitchen Table, I enjoyed it marginally more than Dabbous which does have a bit of an on-trend attitude about the whole thing which made it slightly joyless. Not sure you can go too far wrong though.
Thank you very much for getting back to me, I appreciate it. I think kitchen table sounds better if solo or two maybe three dining together? Dabbous have offered us a table for 5, so a much bigger group and thus different experience. Slightly embarrassing that I allow my restaurant choice to dictate who I dine with rather than the other way round! Will report back if it all goes through.
